Abstract

The Doctor and Professor Rodrigo Álvarez Cambras, constitutes one of the most important figures in the medical sciences with repercussions in the pedagogical sciences. The objective of the essay is to reveal the contribution of his pedagogical medical work to Higher Medical Education and to argue why he is considered the father of Orthopedics and Traumatology in Cuba. It is a descriptive-explanatory investigation of a historical nature where qualitative methods of the theoretical level and empirical methods were used: in the latter, the review of documents including personal funds, files, testimonies, also through a review of serial publications and monographs in the databases scielo, cumed, lilacs, on the biographical data of the life and work of the aforementioned doctor in the period 2014-2019 and his main contributions as a doctor, pedagogue, scientist and manager, backed by his more than five decades dedicated to medical and pedagogical sciences. The contribution of the professor's medical pedagogical work to Higher Medical Education is shown with the creation of a Cuban and Ibero-American School of Orthopedics and Traumatology.
