Abstract

The objective of this work is to reveal what could be considered the main scientific finding for Cuban Education in the fourth Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE-2019), of OREALC-UNESCO-Santiago, by estimating the magnitude of the effect of the 'developing teaching' on cognitive achievement, according to the data emanating from the applied student questionnaires. To achieve this purpose, the estimation of the effect of factors associated with learning on cognitive achievement was used as a method, with the help of population regression models. As a result, it was obtained that, in the different curricular areas evaluated, the estimated effects for 'developing teaching' double, as a rule, those of 'explanatory-illustrative teaching'. This made it possible to conclude that there is a didactic potential in the country that would allow further raising the quality of education in Cuba.
