The Cuban experience of education for the elderly

Abstract

The present study had as objective: to analyze the postulates about the educational work with older adults and especially those related to the Cuban experience of the University Chairs for the older adult. The methodology used is part of the mixed approach where the qualitative approach predominates, which is complemented by quantitative methods. Methods of scientific research of the theoretical and empirical level of knowledge were used, such as the bibliographic review, the analysis of documents and memories of events, as well as the observation of educational activities with older adults. As a result, the experiences related to the education of the elderly at an international level and in particular the Cuban one that is carried out from the work of an honorary Chair that is integrated into the extension work of the university are analyzed. In conclusion, the analysis of an educational work that takes into account the particularities, experiences and motivations of the participating older adults is presented, generating a model of human, social and educational integration; that encourages the elderly to lead life projects that allow them to recover leading roles in the community context.
