Abstract

The advent of novel technologies has encouraging education to undergo a series of drastic changes, inducing students to take a more active and interactive role. By coupling such facts with the use of open software and publicly accessible data repositories, the teaching-learning processes involved in postgraduate courses may be greatly enhanced. Some educative experiences in this regard, lived by the authors in their research group when using open software tools and public data sets repositories in the context of postgraduate level courses on Pattern Recognition, are presented in this paper.
