Abstract

In this work we analyzes the strategies used by the college students when they solved problems of determining maximum and minimum described verbally and / or geometric context. The research was motivated by the concern to know whether mathematics courses at the university improves the  student proficiency in algebraic language to express verbally situations raised, which is a prerequisite to be in a position to apply calculus techniques.
