Development of English listening skills in socially vulnerable students

Abstract

The development of listening comprehension skills in English requires students to listen to others carefully, in order to construct a communicative situation based on personal sociocultural contexts. Scientific evidence has shown that a safe school coexistence allows the development of listening comprehension skills through mediated learning. This case study explores the development of listening skills of elementary students from a Chilean public school. Results show that the great majority of students are not able to develop the skills under study due to an initial cognitive, affective, motivational and behavioral development.
