Leadership as an element in the teacher development process: a study case

Abstract

Teacher´s leadership is one of the factors considered to influence the effectiveness on education, because they improve their performance. Thus, the objective of this research is to know the effect that leadership of the teachers has on their performance; today, human talent is considered a valuable resource for organizations, there are a few studies on competencies that teachers must develop and allow them to perform their work excellently. Teacher's self-evaluation of their leadership and the results of their performance evaluations made by their students were used for the analysis during a school period in higher education institution in Mexico. The study presents a descriptive and correlational approach to determine the relation of teacher´s leadership and their performance. Although participants are leaders and leadership helps to improve educational quality and students performance, there is no significant evidence to show a correlation between their leadership and their performance.
